Our Tutors

Our tutors come from a range of backgrounds including teaching at all levels from elementary school through college, the business world, career advising and law. Their experience is wide ranging and brings with them many ideas for working with students. We draw on this experience to bring your student the best possible approaches to learning. Everyone at Parker River Tutoring is committed to bringing efficient learning strategies to your student to help them find success.

Meagan Sousa: President, Professional Tutor

In January of 2010, with over 15 years of one-on-one tutoring experience and 10 years working with middle and high school students in out-of-school education, Meagan Sousa launched Parker River Tutoring. She has worked with students from all over the North Shore to help those students succeed. Areas of expertise include Mathematics, Study Skills, SAT/ACT, SAT Subject Tests, High School Entrance Exams, MCAS, and MTEL.

Ms. Sousa holds a B.S. from Columbia University School of Engineering. Prior to starting Parker River Tutoring, she worked for years with students through an in-home tutoring company, afterschool programs, and teaching study skills and SAT prep classes to middle and high school students throughout the North Shore. Additionally, Meagan has created and overseen a peer tutoring program at a local youth development agency. She has been an asset for tutoring agencies, the YMCA and Girls Inc. of Lynn, and has branched out to working exclusively with her own clients over the past eight years.

Alyssa Gibbs, Study Skills, Writing:
Alyssa has taught English and theater at the high school level for 15 years. She holds a BFA in Theater Studies from Emerson College, graduate coursework in literature and education, and is Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsed. At the core of her educational practice is preparing students to effectively communicate in speaking and writing, both in and out of the classroom, and to help them develop their active reading and listening skills, while challenging each student to meet themselves at their personal best. In addition to teaching, Alyssa serves as the Education Chair on the Board of Directors at Theater in the Open in Newburyport, MA. She lives in Ipswich with her family
